Hidden Places in Antwerp

Welcome in February!

In this blog, we will take you to some hidden treasures – and a few forgotten places – in Antwerp. We hope we will inspire you to give Antwerp (another) visit this year.

Zurenborg – “Dageraadplaats”

In the middle of town, you can find district Zurenborg. A quiet place, with Art Nouveau and other fin-de-siècle style buildings. When visiting Zurenborg, don’t forget to check out the Dageraadplaats with several nice terraces (recommended during summer months) and restaurants. When continuing onto the Draakplaats, you’ll find more bars, restaurants and atmosphere.

Zurenborg is easy accessible with tram 11 from Antwerp Central Station – or a nice 20 minute walk from our hotel.

Middelheim Park

Looking for the most peaceful piece in town? Visit Middelheim Park and you’ll be all Zen for the rest of the day. With over 24 acres of nature, a museum, water, restaurants and over 300 sculptures.

Middelheim Park is situated at the south border of Antwerp and accessible with bus 21 or 32.

Want the beauty of Antwerp, but the noise is too much? Visit the border side at Linkeroever. You can admire the beauty of the city of Antwerp on a bench in the grass at the other side of the river Scheldt. Enjoy the silence.

You can visit Linkeroever with tram 3, 9 or 15 – or go old school by walking through the Sint-Anna Tunnel. With its beautiful wooden escalators, another thing to do while visiting Antwerp!

The most historical street of Antwerp, Vlaeykensgang, right in Antwerp Old Town. A tiny alley that transports you through time. With wooden benches, old lanterns, brick courtyards and vine-adorned walls and doors.

Vlaeykensgang is at the Old Town of Antwerp, which takes only 15-20 minutes by foot from our hotel.

Red Star Line Museum

Not a hidden gem, but mostly a must-see. At the harbor and upcoming part of Antwerp  “’t Eilandje” you can find the Red Star Line Museum. A flash back to the 3 million who emigrated to America using this historic shipping line.

Combine the RSL Museum with a visit at the MAS Museum, at a quick walk from each other.

The RSL Museum is accessible by bus 17, or a 40-minute walk from our hotel. Recommended by sunny weather ;-)
